Mr. Berg has over 9 years of experience providing nuclear safety and nuclear criticality safety support across the Hanford site. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Safety Basis Review Team for the Department of Energy, Office of River Protection (DOE-ORP) responsible for reviewing the Low-Activity Waste (LAW) Facility and High-Level Waste (HLW) Facility safety basis documentation for compliance with DOE requirements. He collaborated with Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI) in development of the hazards analysis and optimization of Technical Safety Requirements in support of the Direct-Feed LAW Documented Safety Analysis (DSA), which ultimately led to approval of the first WTP DSA, for the LAW facility.
Mr. Berg has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho and possesses his Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification in Mechanical Engineering.
Mr. Berg led the annual updates to the DSAs for the following Central Plateau Surveillance and Maintenance facilities: 224-B, 224-T, and the Plutonium-Uranium Extraction (PUREX) Facility. Additionally, he was the technical authority for the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF) DSA. He supported the CHPRC Transportation Safety group as the Plutonium Finishing Plant Field Representative. In three years, Mr. Berg authored a combination of over 200 USQ Screens, Determinations, and PISA evaluations for activities that impacted multiple nuclear facilities as well as on-site and off-site transportation and packaging operations.
